MOTORBIKE BASIC HANDLING SKILLS TEST
Motorbike riding requires skills that you can only gain by spending time on a motorcycle. For this reason, you cannot legally ride a motorcycle on the road using a car driver’s licence. You need a Class 6 (motorcycle) licence to ride a motorcycle on the road.
Before you can apply for a learner licence you must pass a Basic Handling Skills Test, conducted by an approved motorcycle riding instructor or approved testing officer.
Before your test you can practice basic motorcycle handling skills on your own private property or at a motorcycle training school.
How do I go about it?
You ring and book in with us for your test. We supply the bike and the helmet for your test, and at present this assessment is only done at our main base in Moerewa, because it must be done on an approved course. The test takes approximately 20 minutes.
Once you have done that, you then go to the AA and do your next stage which is your Learner Licence, a Road Code test. Ask us about support for this next stage of your license.
As you graduate from one stage to the next, you’re given a new licence with different requirements and more responsibilities. Normal road rules apply at all times and you must always carry your licence with you when you’re riding.
Like Class 1 (Car), there are three Stages to get your licence:
Stage 1: Learner Licence
Stage 2: Restricted Licence
Stage 3: Full Licence
